Description:
c1935 mfr Code “G” Date World War II German MAUSER “s/42” Luger P.08 Pistol

WWII German Semi-Automatic C&R Sidearm

Here we present a C&R Third Reich German s/42 Mauser P.08 Luger Pistol, made in 1935. Manufactured in 1935, Mauser utilized a combination of codes "S/42” on the toggle and “G" code on top of the receiver ring to denote the maker and the year of manufacture as they and the German government defied the Treaty of Versailles. The code system was intended to obscure the scale and speed of German re-armament.
Interestingly, since the terms of the Treaty of Versailles only allowed the German Simson & Company to produce any of the few small arms granted Germany after World War I, arms production was done secretly at Mauser, among others. The “S” stands for “Simson” to throw off suspicion, and “/42” was the rest of the code for the Mauser factory. Dates were left off of the barrel until about 1936 when Germany’s arms production and military activities started to be brought into the light.

This piece is “G” dated (1935) on the barrel and has the Mauser company’s coded designation of “s/42”. It is “W154”, “S92, and Drooped Wing Eagle military proofed. The magazine is blued and marked “122” and “eagle/37”.

The overall condition is good. Original finish with some pitting throughout. The numbers match throughout except for the grips, which are not visibly numbered, and the magazine. The action is excellent. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. The grips are well-used and chipped or split in a couple places on the edges. Not import marked. A good example of a scarce WW2 Luger variant!
