Description:
Serial #227244, .30-40 Krag, 22" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has traces of freckling within the grooves. This is a "MODEL 1899" carbine that is in correct configuration for the Philippine Constabulary Carbine, including the turned down muzzle for the Model 1905 bayonet. The sole exception is the presence of a Model 1901 rifle rear sight rather than the carbine sight. The metal has an overall smooth, plum-brown patina with some of the original blue present on protected areas. The bolt has a mottled gray and black patina with some of the original bright fire blue still present on the extractor. The walnut stock and handguard have minor handling marks and small blemishes scattered about the added military oil finish, as well as a short, with-the-grain crack on the left side of the butt at the heel. The "JFC" cartouche and proof marks are still clear and legible. This is a very good Krag, and is in a highly desirable configuration. It would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
