Description:
This is a used gun, no return policy.
The Taurus M44 is very comparable to the Smith & Wesson Model 629. It too, is a large frame revolver made of stainless steel and chambered for the famous .44 Remington Magnum cartridge. The example shown here is SKU # 2-440069. It features a 6.5-inch long, ported barrel. The porting helps to reduce recoil and muzzle flip, reducing time between follow-up shots. The barrel also has a full lug to reduce recoil. The rubber grip provides a generous amount of padding on the backstrap to reduce wear to the user’s hand. This can be an issue for revolvers with exposed backstraps. Over the course of shooting such a gun, the user will begin to feel pain in theof the hand because the force of the recoil is being directly sent into the user’s hand and wrist. A rubber backstrap helps reduce this wear quite significantly. The sights are the usual adjustable rear and red ramp front found on most revolvers today. The yoke (or crane) features a spring-loaded plunger that fits into a recess inside the frame under the barrel, acting as a third locking point. This effectively makes the M44 a stronger firearm than older versions of the 629 as the cylinder locking into three places instead of two provides greater overall lockup. Newer versions of the 629 also have this feature. At 52.00 oz. unloaded, the M44 is a fairly heavy revolver, but this is what you want in a large-caliber revolver. As it is chambered for the .44 Magnum, the M44 with a 6.5” barrel would make an excellent home defense gun as well something fun to shoot at the range. As with any .44 Magnum revolver, the M44 will also chamber the .44s two predecessors, the .44 S&W Special and .44 S&W Russian. These can be useful for practice at the range as their lower pressure results in reduced felt recoil. Indeed, with the ports in the barrel, the .44 Russian would likely have little if any recoil.
