Brief History of W.W. Marston Arms Co. of New York (1850s):
The W.W. Marston Arms Company of New York was one of the prominent manufacturers of firearms during the mid-19th century. Established in the 1850s by William W. Marston, the company gained recognition for producing high-quality firearms, particularly pistols and revolvers.
Marston's innovations were notable, particularly in the design and manufacturing of percussion pistols. The Bar Hammer Single Shot 31 Cal. Percussion Muff Pistol is a testament to the company's craftsmanship and ingenuity. Its unique feature of a screw-off barrel for breech loading would have been a cutting-edge design at the time, offering practicality and ease of use.
During the 1850s, America was undergoing rapid industrialization, and the firearms industry was no exception. W.W. Marston Arms Co. capitalized on this burgeoning market, supplying firearms not only to civilians but also to law enforcement agencies and military units.
Although specific records of the company's production numbers and sales figures are scarce, surviving examples of Marston firearms are highly sought after by collectors today. They represent a significant era in American firearm manufacturing, characterized by innovation, craftsmanship, and the spirit of frontier ingenuity.

Condition:
2’ half round half octagon barrel with a nice smooth bore with just some very minor pitting.  The metal surface has been cleaned to pewter with stains from oxidation and a few handling marks. The frame is a mix of pewter and gray showing spots of moderate oxidation.  Barrel markings are still somewhat clear and legible.  The smooth walnut factory grips fit the frame well with handling marks ,  areas of worn finish.  Serial number is located under the left grip. The pistol appears to function very well mechanically with a strong hammer spring. The trigger return spring is sluggish but returns ok with a crisp trigger pull.

As a collector's piece,  this Marston derringer holds historical significance due to its association with an influential figure in American firearms history and its representation of mid-19th-century firearm design and innovation. Its unique markings and features make it a desirable item for enthusiasts of antique firearms and collectors of historical artifacts.  This gun is and Antique and ships direct to the buyer with FREE shipping included.
