Description:
Antique Smith & Wesson #2 Old Army. Here is a decent Smith & Wesson #2 Old Army. S/N 25480 and well in the Civil War range. Caliber is the .32 Rim Fire of course. This one has the more rare 5” barrel. All assembly numbers matching are 11. Grips are numbered to gun. The mechanics are in good working order.. Indexes perfectly.. Barrel has the typical wobble fit to the frame hinge and the cylinder has the common side to side wobble at the front arbor pin also. The lock up is good with a little side roll. Metal over all is a medium gray brown with some very minor pin prick pitting at the top hinge area and right where the patent dates are on the cylinder. { see photos }.. Pretty smooth metal showing no abuse or heavy cleaning. Original under barrel ejector pin. Hammer is good with NO repairs or broken as many have been. Grips are numbered to the gun as mentioned and are very nice showing about 60% varnish on the left and 10% or so on the right. No cracks or chips and a perfect snap on fit. Shows a little flare wear on the bottom left from honest use. Excellent markings but the assembly numbers on the barrel and cylinder are hard to see with out a jewelers loop because of some black powder pitting in this area and the patent dates on the cylinder are a little weak from honest wear and light pin prick pitting. { see photos }. Bore shows rifling with pitting.. Cylinder chambers show pitting at the front end. Typical of these early black powder revolvers that were not cleaned well or often enough.. With a little tightening at the hinge and the front cylinder arbor pin would make this a very crisp and tight gun. Just a decent 5” barreled Ole Smith #2 that could have very well seen some Civil War use and priced about as cheap as you will ever find one in working condition. $20 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. Best if e-mail as my phone service has been out because I need to get a new signal booster but if you call you can leave a message and I will return your call. Thanks for looking..
