Description:
REVOLUTIONARY WAR Period JOHN REA Long Sea Service Pattern FLINTLOCK Pistol

Used by the British Royal Naval Service!

Here we present an antique British John Rea Long Sea Service Pattern Flintlock Pistol, made circa 1770 in London, England. This is a very scarce example of an American Revolutionary War Period English Pattern 1756 Naval/Sea Service Pistol with English Board of Ordnance Markings, indicating “Royal (Naval) Service”. The lock is Regulation Pattern 1756 “Flat” Sea Service design with its original flat reinforced hammer, a faceted bridle-less powder-pan and an arrowhead finial frizzen-spring. Marked with a Board of Ordnance Crown marking, under the powder-pan and engraved with a “I. REA" maker’s mark, for John Rea I of London, England, who worked at several locations on Minories, including at 122 Minories.

This pistol has full brass, Pattern 1756 Sea Service type hardware. The heavy butt-cap is screw fastened with short side terminals. The trigger guard has a pointed forward finial and a plain bow. London proof marks are located over the breech of the barrel with Ordnance acceptance marks.

The overall condition is very good. The action is strong. The bore is smooth and dark. “VH” is hand engraved on the bottom of the stock just in from of the trigger guard. There is a small repair from the bottom of the lock to the trigger plate that is stable. Here we have a prime example of an amazing British flintlock sea service pistol from the late-18th Century!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 11-1/2 inches.
