Description:
Colt M16A1 Carbine Model RO653. This configuration was produced as a Law Enforcement Patrol Carbine. A1 lower, 603 upper, 14.5”, .625 diameter, 1/12 twist barrel w/A1 type lock washer and A1 birdcage Flash Hider, A1 grip, XM177E2/629 type coated aluminum stock, 2 position tube, slip ring, 6 hole hand grips and safe/semi/auto fire control group. Overall length is 33 inches. This is the lightest M16 variant ever produced
The RO653 is similar to both the XM177E2 and the Israeli IDF Carbine. The XM177E2 featured a 11.5 inch light weight (.625 diameter) barrel w/the “Modulator” flash suppressor and delta ring hand guard mount. The 629 variant was identical except it had the delta ring.
This 653 is in excellent condition. It was never LE issued and was sold directly to the civilian market. The weapon was manufactured between 1979 and 1985. The only modification has been the addition of a quick release swivel mount to the stock tube which is easily removed. The plastic furniture is correct and shows little wear. The bolt and upper are original and in excellent condition. The current owner has never fired this weapon with the factory upper.
The sale includes an additional upper. That upper is a 7.5 inch 1/7 twist barrel with A2 ramped camber with BCG and charging handle, and Aimpoint Patrol Optic. It was used for 250 rounds.
This 653 is currently on Form 4 in CO. A 50% deposit is due on purchase. The remaining balance is due when the transfer Form 3 is ready for submission.
