BRACE of FRENCH Antique MARTIAL Pistols Flintlock to Percussion Conversions

.60 Caliber Swamped Octagonal Barrels

Here we present a Matched Pair of French Officer’s Pistols, made circa the late 1700s to early 1800s at St. Etienne. These pistols would have started out life as flintlocks and converted sometime after the more reliable percussion system was introduced. They both features .60 caliber smoothbores in swamped octagonal barrels. The stocks are full-length with hand-checkered grip. The pommels are capped in steel. The pommel caps, trigger guards, locks, side plates, ramrod tubes, and barrel tangs are engraved. These were made for martial purposes and would have ridden in the belt or pommel holsters. They are a nice size, not being overly long or bulky while providing significant firepower. These would have been around in Napoleon’s time.

The overall condition is very good. Clear St. Etienne proof marks on the breech-end of the barrels. The engravings remain clear as well. The actions are excellent. The bores are smooth and patinated. The stocks show period use and remain in nice shape. One of the pistols has a minor, stable split at the muzzle. The ramrods are in fair shape as these are made of wood and a bit more fragile than steel counterparts. One is tipped in horn and looks to be original. The other has been tipped in brass.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrels are 6-1/2 inches.

Calibers: .60 Percussion

Overall condition as seen in photos.
