Description:
**SOLD**  This is a very cool late 1970's to early 80's vintage Taylor Mk.1 .45 ACP drum magazine with a 29 round capacity made by Bingham Limited in Atlanta, Ga., complete with it's original factory loading tool and a copy of the original instructional page.  While this steel-construction drum magazine was designed to fit the 70 Series Colt 1911 Government Model pistols originally, it will fit ANY make or variation of the 1911 Government model pistol that uses a standard 1911-type single-stack magazine or any carbine that uses standard 1911 magazines (like the .45 ACP Marlin Camp Carbine, the .45 ACP Just Right Carbine, or a Mech-Tech 1911 Carbine Upper).  This would definitely be a blast to use with with one of these semi-auto carbines, as it is too easy to tear thru 7 to 10 rounds out of a standard 1911 mag within seconds.  This very cool drum mag gives you 19 to 22 more rounds on-board for lots of shooting before having to reload.  It would also function very well in a home-defense situation where the last thing you want to have to do is to reload when shooting it out with an armed intruder in your home!  This Taylor Mk.1 drum is not some cheap piece of Korean or Chinese junk made of plastic that jams up as often as it works, the stamped-steel Taylor Mk.1 .45 ACP drum mag was designed to be reliable and durable.  The drum mag uses a coiled flat-band spring like many other drum magazines and is wound-up by turning the key on the rear face of the drum clock-wise. This winding key has an automatic latch system that locks-in at each "click" or notch so it won't unwind on accident.  It takes only 8 to 10 clicks to fully wind it to fire all 29 rounds in most guns, with some people finding that it works even better winding 12 to 14 "clicks" if it is fully-loaded.  To release the spring tension and unwind the drum you simply have to turn the key/winder slightly clock-wise just enough to take the tension off of the automatic latch and then push the knurled knob towards the left side of the key.  Doing this disengages the latch, and you then hold it there while letting the key/winder slowly turn couter-clockwise to unwind.
As you can see from the pictures, this Taylor Mk.1 drum is in excellent condition overall, and would rate 98% if not for the marred slot on the large slotted screw thru the winder.  The rest of the magazine is really clean and handsome.  The factory blue finish is uniform and bright, showing only a few tiny little handling/storage marks in it.  If it has been used at all, it has been used VERY lightly and been well cared-for.  The feed lips are near pristine with no visible wear or defects, all of the factory markings are crisp and clear, all of the metal seams are tight, and the stamped sheet metal is free from any dents, major damage, or repairs.  Everything works on this drum mag just as it was designed to, and while we dont have the facilities here to test-fire it thru one of our 1911's, we wound it up and unwound it a couple of times, and loaded/unloaded it a couple of times with zero problems.  The factory loading tool is a must-have and works great, as it gets pretty hard to load once you reach half-full.  Regarding the marred slot on the key/winder screw, it would only take a little elbow grease and time it wouldn't be too hard to clean/dress up the marring on that screw slot at the rear and cover up any bare metal with a little cold blue, which would move this piece into the 98% category and make it look essentially like/near-new.  If time wasn't so short and busy here we would have done it ourselves prior to listing it.
