Description:
One of the variations of bayonet made for the Japanese Navy Special Type 99 Rifle, variation P2, in Ray LaBar's book, "Bayonets of Japan" Straight guard, flat birdhead pommel, straight wood grips, with a fuller-less blade, with a top false edge. The bayonet is devoid of any manufactures marks or serial numbers as was normal. The blade, guard and pommel retain nearly all of the original finish with a light coating of surface oxidation, with original finish to the wooden grips. The 397mm blade is excellent, except the tip which shows an impact. The rubberized canvas 1 piece scabbard and frog, unique to the Navy bayonet, is in sound condition for its age with it's two rivets pulled through but the stitching is fine. The rubberized material has stiffened and the belt loops have been pressed together, which is common, but no flaking or damage to the rubber surface, except for a few hairline cracks.
