A Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation letter accompanies this sensationally rare factory silver plated .32 Safety Hammerless 2nd Model AKA 'New Departure' confirming the special order and detailing its original shipment on April 10, 1901 to Schoverling, Dale & Gale in New York City. The gun is equipped with a 3 1/2" barrel, mother of pearl grips and original factory silver plating. The gun is untouched and has never been polished, with the original silver plating having naturally aged to a gorgeous deep grey with strong toning throughout. A wonderful and wonderfully presenting gun that is especially impressive in hand! Knowledgeable collectors are aware of the extreme rarity of factory silver plated guns, with the general practice stopping just after the turn of the century. An impressive small frame that will have a special place in any collection. This is the first factory silver plated gun we have offered for sale in years!
