M1941 Johnson Rifle in .30-06 Springfield. This is an American short-recoil operated semi-automatic rifle that unsuccessfully competed with the contemporary M1 Garand rifle. The Johnson rifle had some advantages over the Garand such as a greater magazine capacity and the ability to top up the magazine with a closed bolt. Though not adapted by the U.S. Army, a number of the Johnson rifle were procurred by the U.S. Marines and saw action in early Pacific theater combat.
