Romarm model Romak-3 chambered in the impressive 7.62x54R cartridge is the sporting version of the Romanian Military PSL sniper rifle. This weapon is identical in almost every respect to the original military version of the PSL except for modifications to comply with the U.S. import laws. These modifications deal with BATF restrictions to the trigger group all other parts are identical. The Romanian PSL was designed in 1974 when the Soviet Union ceased sharing technical information and exporting military equipment to Romania, as a consequence of the latter's refusal to join the Invasion of Czechoslovakia. It is very similar in appearance to the Soviet SVD Dragunov but internally different as the PSL is based on the RPK light machinegun. The rifle's primary purpose is to be used by a platoon-level designated marksman to engage targets at ranges beyond the capabilities of the standard-issue AKM assault rifles. It is built around a stamped steel receiver similar to that of the RPK light machine gun; having a wider forward section enabling a strengthened, more substantial front trunnion. The PSL's operating system is the same long-stroke piston action of the Kalashnikov family of weapons. The Romak-3 feeds from standard PSL 10 round magazines and is typically fitted with surplus LPS 4x6 TIP2 telescopic sight. They were first produced and assembled by Regia Autonoma Pentru Productia de Tehnica Militara (Romarm) Cugir arsenal in Cugir, Romania. However, most are now assembled by various US importers. This Romak-3 was manufactured and assembled by Romarm in Romania and imported through Inter Arms International in Knox, TN. The previous owner sent the rifle to Rifle Dynamics in Las Vegas, NV for over $1000 of custom work. Which included a shortening of the factory barrel to 19 Inches for easier handling, accurizing additions of a custom 17-degree cut target crown, a Karsten Customs cheekpiece, a Red Star Arms trigger group, and a complete Ironwood Designs stock set and professional fitting and polishing of all the working parts. All this work makes for one very impressive rifle. The stock set is beautiful, the action is impressively smooth for an AK and the bore is mirror bright with perfect rifling. This rifle comes with the original factory optic as well as a new Russian-made optic in a black finish to better match the rifle (currently mounted), 5 factory PSL magazines, and the original factory PSL stock set. This is one phenomenal package at an outstanding value.
