Description:
Built during the last year of WW1, this is a very honest and all-original Winchester Model 1886 Take-Down model rifle chambered in .33 WCF.  This rifle is a patina gun as most of the original gloss blue finish on the receiver has long ago flaked/worn off, and now only the barrel, the half-length magazine tube, and bolt retain the original factory blue.  This is very common as the nickel content of the steel Winchester used in receivers at this time made for a very poor adhesion to their gloss blue finish.  As you can see from the pictures, the gun shows lots of small and minor dings. dents, and marring but is free from any major damage.  All of the factory markings on the barrel and upper and lower tangs are crisp and fully legible.  The bore in the round 24" inch barrel is VERY good, showing bright lands and grooves and very little to no pitting or erosion.  It has a clean, very shootable bore that should be just as accurate now as it was over 100 years ago.  The sights on this 1886 are also in good condition with a front sight blade with an ivory bead at the front and a semi-buckhorn style rear with a sliding elevator.  The original stock on this gun is in great shape overall.  Like the rifle itself, the wood shows lots of very small handling/storage marks in it but is still very handsome.  Outside of a small chunk missing from the tor of the gun the wood is crack and repair free.  The forearm and buttstock are a perfect match to each other in color and condition, and both parts are tight to the gun with zero wiggle.  The take down design of this handy high-powered lever gun uses a screw-out magazine tube with a folding handle and interrupted threads to remove the forend and barrel from the receiver and butttsock.  These two parts lock together perfectly with ZERO play between them when assembled.  The action on this 1886 is smooth and slick, and the bolt-to-barrel lock-up is excellent.  Wen it battery there is no lever droop.  All of the controls on this Winchester are in perfect working order, and the hammer still has both the safety notch and full-cock notches intact.  The trigger is quite good, breaking with a light pull without any felt grit or excessive travel.  This Winchester should shoot and function just as reliably today as it di when it left the factory 104 years ago.  If you have been looking for one of these large frame very-cool Winchester 1886 take-downs for your collection here is your chance to get one at a great price.  Not only will this continue to appreciate in value but it could also be used as a decorator for a man-cave or living room and as an occasional shooter should the mood strike you!
