Description:
Serial #7671, .44 Caliber, 7 1/2" barrel with a fair-good bore that has light pitting along its length, and some dark freckling within the grooves. This is a late-production, "US"-marked revolver that was built in 1849 and has matching numbers on the frame, barrel, loading lever, wedge, arbor, trigger guard, and backstrap. The cylinder no longer has any of the scene, nor the serial number remaining. The metal has an overall pewter gray patina with some scattered areas of dark freckling, some small patches of pinprick pitting, as well as some thin surface oxidation at the rear of the cylinder. The hammer is not original, and has muted original color case-hardening present along both sides, while the brass trigger guard and backstrap have a dark, yellow-ochre patina throughout, as well as scattered tool and old polishing markings throughout. The walnut grip has been sanded and refinished to about very good condition, with some minor handling marks scattered about the wood. The action is fully functional, and the revolver rates good overall. This is a great looking First Model Dragoon that would make a fine representative example for a collection. Antique
