Description:
Early World War II production of Czechoslovakia Ceská Zbrojovka Pistolet vzor vz. 38 double-action only semi-auto blowback service pistol chambered in 9mm Kurz. Production began in 1938 after approval by the Ministry of National Defense, and by early 1939 limited quantities were supplied to the Czech Army. Military occupation of Czechoslovakia by Germany began in September 1938 and by March 1939 the CZ Strakonice factory was under German control just as production of the vz. 38 was underway. German Heeresmitteilungen nomenclature for the pistol is “39(t)”. Only 41,000 pistols were produced with most provided to the Wehrmacht and Reich Labor Service. Serial numbers range from 250,000 to around 291,000. The serial of this pistol is 270,329, which dates production to October 1939. No Waffenamt acceptance stamp was applied to Czech contract pistols. This pistol has matching serials, original military blue finish with some spotty surface corrosion. Original one-piece wraparound checkered grip in brown Bakelite with CZ logos with no cracks or chips. Factory 8-round detachable magazine. Lanyard ring. Bore is clean and bright, and small parts have some straw color. On right frame is CZ circle logo, “E7/Rampant Lion/39” – referencing the arms inspection office, military acceptance and production year. Slide top in front of rear sight has Rampant Czech Lion. No import mark found. Action functions as designed with crisp double-action trigger pull. No safety by design. Original military pistol in good collector condition. An uncommon military sidearm in limited numbers for your World War II small arms collection.
