This fine pair of Bird & Ashmore flintlock dueling pistols was made circa 1810. Thomas Bird and Ashmore operated at Great Charles Street and Edmund Street, Birmingham, from 1807 to 1811. The overall length of the pistols is approx. 15"". The 9.25"" octagon 60 caliber smooth bore barrels have very good bores. Both barrels have smooth areas of original brown finish with one having more than the other with the remainder being a pleasing silver brown patina. The barrels are marked ""LONDON"" on the top flat. The pistols have a small blade front sight and standing notch rear sight. The barrel tangs and trigger guards are engraved. The smooth gray-brown roller frizzen locks with double bridle pans are marked ""BIRD"" over ""&"" over ""ASHMORE"". They, and the cocks, have edge lines. The trigger guards have a pineapple finial with engraving along with an engraved bow. The stocks, with blank oval escutcheons at the wrist, teardrops at the lock tails, and bag shaped grips are very good with no cracks or chips and light overall wear. One pistol has a stable age crack from the rear lock screw to the barrel. Both have ramrods. The actions function correctly with the exception that one pistol can have half cock released with a trigger pull. This very nice pair of dueling pistols is ready for your collection!
