Description:
Colt SAA revolver with 7-1/2 inch barrel chambered in 45 LC caliber with a good dark bore with visible rifling. 6 shot fluted cylinder. Early "Bullseye" ejector head. Overall metal is a worn gray look with scattered pitting as is often found on U.S. shipped SAA revolvers of this date range. Inspector initials "HN" referring to Henry Nettleton are found on the barrel, frame, cylinder, hammer and trigger guard. With only approximately 3,000 examples marked "HN" many consider them difficult to obtain. These "HN" revolvers are a must have for any serious Colt collector. The "US" marking has been removed from this one. Nice action but the cylinder has a little play. Retains all 4 clicks. One piece walnut grips have a partially visible cartouche on left side. Very faint but with magnification you can pick out the outline. Right side has some amateur initials carved into it. Grips have some wear and dents but are sound. Comes complete with a Colt Historian Letter listing serial number, caliber, finish, and sold to United States Government along with the date shipped "September 25, 1878". A great hard to find historical example of a scarce Colt Cavalry Single Action variation in probably one of the most sought after of all inspectors, Henry Nettleton.
