Description:

A FINE "FIRST MODEL AMERICAN ",  FACTORY LETTERED,  IN FINE ORGINAL CONDITION.
The FACTORY LETTER, states this revolver was sold on March 23, 1872 and shipped to M.W. Robinson, New York City, NY.
The top of the barrel rib is marked with the One Line Address and five patent dates (1860 - 1869). 

There were less than 500 of these units produced in the First Model range.  (see S&W letter)  .44 S&W caliber, 8" barrel.
This revolver is in Fine Original condition, the frame retains 50% Nickel  Original Nickel Finish showing some minor flaking,  mixed with a few small patches of gray patina.  Mechanically excellent.  The Walnut grips are numberd to this gun, the right panel has been repaired.
Overall a very solid,  First Year Production 1st. Model Smith & Wesson Transition American.  
These First Model American revolvers were the first S&W top-break cartridge revolvers that predated the Colt Single Action by nearly three years.  First Model American revolvers are known to have been carried by William F. (Buffalo Bill) Cody and other famous western figures.   A good looking "First Model Transition American"  with a very Colorful History, and the included Historic Factory Letter.
