The letter confirms the 30” Damascus barrels in 12 Gauge, the pistol grip, a weight of 7 lbs. 14 oz., a 14” LOP, and a 2 ½” drop at the heel. The buyer specifically requested a “handsome stock”! We think Parker obliged! The cost of the shotgun new was $100. The Parker DH, or Grade 3 was introduced in 1875 and was very popular at a cost of $100 (a 100 Dollar grade). This DH has Damascus barrels. The stock is made of Circassian walnut. The stock commonly has a silver shield behind the tang, nickel or silver plated triggers and spear-pointed extensions to the stock side panels. The checkering on the stock is more elaborate than lower grades and is a deep, twenty lines to the inch. Stocks were fitted with a skeleton butt plate as standard but recoil pads were an option. Dogs were almost always a feature of the engraving on the sides along with some extensive scroll work. Charles Parker was an entrepreneur who began working in U.S. manufacturing in the 1830s. Interestingly, one of his first products was a coffee mill. He also collaborated on several government contracts to make arms during the American Civil War, including one for the Model 1861 and then a truly interesting, rare breech-loading design for the state of Kentucky, called the Triplett & Scott Carbine. Finally, in 1866, after his experience in arms manufacture for the war effort, he and his sons, Wilbur and Dexter, began the company Parker Brothers, making sporting shotguns. This company is considered by many to have been the best manufacturer of fine American shotguns, ever. The company was in business until 1942. The overall condition is very good. Very nice pattern remains on the Damascus Steel barrels. The actions are excellent. The bores are smooth and bright. The numbers match. The stock is indeed handsomely figured and nicely checkered with a skeletonized butt plate. There is a stable crack around the stock’s wrist that does not move as it seems to have been repaired but a repair really isn’t visible. There is a stamped marking on the edge of the butt stock “SHS/77”. A very nice gun with neat provenance! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 30 inches. Caliber: 12 Gauge Chambers: 2-3/4 inch with Extractor Length of pull: 14 inches. Chokes: Cylinder/Improved Cylinder Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
