A Very Rare & Exquisite Civil War Gold Ladder Badge Presented To "Major Rufus W. Jacklin" From "1st. Div. Batt. S.S., (Sharp Shooters)", & "16th Michi
Description: A Very Rare & Exquisite Civil War Gold Ladder Badge Presented To "Major Rufus W. Jacklin" From "1st Div. Batt., S.S., (Sharp Shooters)", & "16th Michigan, V.V. Infantry" In Excellent Original And Untouched Condition. All original and complete. The rare badge is completely engraved on all parts front and back. There are a total of 16 battles engraved on it. The battles engraved on the rear include are the "Yorktown VA, Hanover Court House, VA, Chickahominy VA, Malvern Hill, VA, Chancecllorsvills VA, Fredericks Va' Antietam), Middleburg VA, Gettysburg PA. Wilderence, VA, Bethseda Church VA, Petersburg VA, Hatchers Run, Peebles Farm. and on the front of it the Weldon Rail Road. The Fine presentations are beautifully done. The front of the medal is engraved on the middle bar, "R. W. Jacklin". The parts of the Maltese Cross is engraved on each panel. They read the following going left to right, "CAPT. & BVT. MAJOR/CO. D. 16TH MICH./VV INFTY." then "COMMANDING/1ST. DIV" then "3R BRIGADE" than "BATT. SHARP/SHOOTERS. The ladder badge measures 4-1/4 inched in length, and is 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 inches wide. The top of the badge has a beautiful turned head eagle with a 33 Star American Flag behind it. Major Jacklin has fantastic history in the civil war. He enlisted on 2/1/1862 as a 1st Sergeant and mustered in to "Dygert's Co. MI, Sharpshooters" who were part of the 16th Michigan Infantry. He rose through the ranks to 2nd Lieut. 5/18/1862, then 1st Lieut. 11/1/1862, then Capt. Co. D 6/22/1864, then Major 3/13/1865 by Brevet, then Major 5/8/1865. He was a POW on 5/8/1864 at Laurel Hill, VA. On 5/9/1864 He was re-captured by Genl. Custer's Brigade, & returned to duty on 5/24/1864. His regiment was involved in a total of 105 battles an skirmishes including the major ones listed above. The 16th Michigan Infantry had 235 men and 12 officers killed or mortally wounded in their service. This Very Rare & Exquisite Civil War Gold Ladder Badge Presented To "Major Rufus W.
