Description:
Very nice Winchester Model 1876 Rifle in 40-60 Caliber.
S/N 48492 made in 1884.
28" octagon barrel with an excellent bore, bright and shiny throughout its length.
Bluing is generally good and consistent throughout. There is some light oxidation over much of the metal, more notable on buttplate and near muzzle, but is still limited mostly to the surface with no significant pitting anywhere. There are some longitudinal lines of light flaking on the side plates.
Full length magazine, and set trigger.
The wood is quite good, having never been sanded, repaired or refinished, showing an even and bright finish with only typical light handling marks/scrapes. There is a bit of oil staining immediately behind frame.
There are no cracks anywhere, nor any other notable detractors.
Steel crescent buttplate.
Sights include a gold toned front blade and standard issue ladder type rear which is graduated to 1000 yards and correctly stamped 1876.
The mechanical functions are all working flawlessly, tight and crisp throughout, including the set trigger.
With less than 64K Model 1876s ever produced, nearly all are highly collectible and this is a very respectable and unmolested example.
