Description:
By G. A. GOELLNER OF SUHL. Caliber 16 bore. S# 7 (on rear of buttplate). The 31 inch browned twist barrels are unmarked on tops or bottoms. Case hardened breeches with gold touch holes that are gold inlaid "Goellner" "In Suhl". Rib extension has gold inlaid foliage. Wide and thin gold lines are inlaid at rears. Breech iron with a band of engraved scroll across front is gold inlaid with a sunburst and other highlights. Case hardened locks are fitted with large well filed serpentine cocks. Locks are also fitted with back sliding safetys that engage at half cock. Wood trigger guard has German silver reinforcing band inlet along the bottom edge which is engraved with more wheat ears. German silver heel plate covers only about 30% of butt. Top tang is scroll engraved. "No. 7." on the butt end. Stock of very fancy European walnut features incised geometric carving along the outline of the butt and on ridge of the right hand cheekpiece. Checkered grip and around forend. Stock attaches to barrels with a side bolt through an oval silver escutcheons. Fruitwood ramrod with horn tip and steel tail mounts through two fancy turned German silver pipes and matching thimble. Gun is fitted with wide sling loops. Barrels retaining over 90% original brown finish with some light scratches and some small areas of light cleaned oxidation.  Breech iron and locks retain over 90% bright case hardening color with only some minor silvering on sharp edges. Stock retains nearly all of its fine oil finish with no evidence of cleaning or any refinishing. Bores are bright and shiny throughout. Locks are crisp. Gun appears to be unfired but there are some flint strikes on frizzens. I don't see any signs of any restoration. A very attractive high grade gun that would fit into the finest collection.
