Description:
HANOVER Antique BRITISH NEW LAND PATTERN PISTOL King George’s German Legion

TOWER Marked NAPOLEONIC WARS Era Pistol

Here we present an antique British Tower Hanoverian Percussion Conversion Pistol, made circa the early 1800s in London, England. This pistol would have started out life in the flintlock format around the time of the Napoleonic Wars. It is said that the King’s German Legion kept these after Waterloo and returned home. Later, to extend its service life, this pistol received an update to the percussion firing system by taking out the section of the barrel nearest the breech and inserting a segment with a bolster and percussion nipple. There is also a unique sliding safety installed that blocks the hammer when activated. This was an armory job as it has an acceptance mark on the segment. This one has a neat brass plate reinforcement in the stock where the rammer inserts as part of the conversion/armory update.

The right side of the frame is marked “TOWER” and “CROWN/GR” on the lock, the royal cipher for King George (Latin: Georgius Rex). The barrel and tang are marked “89” three times in succession. Proof marks are present on the left side of the barrel. There is a small arrow pointing to the “GR” crown.
The overall condition is very good. Original finish. The action is excellent. The hammer screw has been replaced. The bore is smooth and patinated. The stock is solid. Numbers match throughout. The side plate is unit marked. A very neat pistol!
