Description:
Don King 54 Cal Hawken Flintlock Pistol and Full Stock Flintlock Rifle. Don was one of the featured builders in Robert Weil's 1980 book, "Contemporary Makers of Muzzle Loading Firearms." Don was the 2010 Contemporary Longrifle Foundation Pioneer Award winner.
The rifle has a 38" x 1" straight barrel in 54 caliber. 54 3/8" overall length, 13 3/8" length of trigger pull, 3 1/4" drop at the heel. Don made his own hand made locks. Double set triggers. Browning is worn on some of the steel furniture from normal use. A few minor dents from normal use. Toe plate has an extension to repair a chipped out portion. Rifle weighs 10.2 lbs.
The pistol has a 10" x 1" barrel in 54 caliber. Visible wearing of the browning in areas, especially at the muzzle end of the barrel. Barrel is marked D. King "76". Pistol weighs 2lb 14 oz. Another hand made lock.
Both the rifle and pistol have bright shiny bores and are fully functional. Both are used, but in very nice condition. A nice set.
