Description:
4th model carbine manufactured in 1883. Serial #160455. Standard 20" round barrel chambered in .44 RF with 2-line address, blade front sight, "1873" marked ladder rear, and full length magazine tube retained by a pair of barrel bands. Brass receiver features well-executed "MA" initials over flourishes on the right side, as well as a saddle ring on the left side. Plain walnut forend and buttstock with steel carbine buttplate. Tang stamped with "4300 C" assembly number, the stock channel also numbered "4300". Very good condition. Steel components have largely drifted to brown patina. Protected areas of the receiver display a darker patina, with the balance very mellow. Stocks have been cleaned. A few larger nicks are present on forend. Stock shows some stable splits with repairs at the wrist and heel. Forward barrel band screw is missing and has been replaced with wire. Abraded bore with defined rifling. Mechanically fine.
