This gun has been cleaned and has a light gray patina with spots of scattered pitting. The action cocks and holds position, but does not revolve. The grips are very good and the left hand side of the grips appears to have “6 CAV ??K" lightly carved in. Civil War Colt 1860 armies were disassembled, refurbished and reassembled for the Indian wars. Most of these were issued to the Buffalo Soldier in the 9th and 10th Cavalries. Since this one has the 6th Cavalry marking, these guns were obviously issued to other Cavalry units besides the 9th and 10th. The 6th Cavalry served in Kansas, then went to Texas to fight the Apaches. They subsequently were sent to Arizona for the Ghost Dance War. Very neat Colt 1860 Army!
