The quintesential New England and Upper Midwest Deer Rifle. Chambered in modern .308 Win with factory loadings at one time up to about 220 gr or more bullet wt. Good for game up to and including Moose and Elk in capable hands. There is some blue loss from carry and use but ZERO pitting and no cracks or splits in the tang where these so often split .This is...just an honest 99 Featherweight that has been well used and well cared for. This is by date code a 1957 Gun which was the lst yr this chambering was offered (along with 243 and 358) prior was only avail in 250 Savage and 300 Savage.
Factory drilled and tapped for scope . Note the Pentax 4x12 is clear and bright with a tac type reticle BUT is stuck on 8 or so mag. No value is being attributed to the scope..it can be used if you don't mind the 8x mag (it adjusts for focus at the rear) The checkering on this FW stock set is as sharp as when this fine gun left the old Savage Factory in Chicopee Falls Mass 67 yrs ago. A recoil pad was added many yrs ago as some must have found the recoil in this featherweight to be a bit much...the LOP with pad is the same as fctory at the time 13 1/2" Otherwise this gun is about exactly as it was when it left Savage nearly 70 yrs ago This has the lever mounted safety prior to the relocation to the upper tang which came in 1960. Has the classic brass rotary magazine, cartridge counter and cocking indicator reflecting Aurther Savages prolific firearms genuis and features normally found on (European) guns costing far more. This does NOT have the commonly found crack at the tang. Stock shortened a bit to accept the pad which is not quite perfectly fit to the stock with the LOP now at 13 1/2 which would have been the factory length at about this time.
