31927- LOUIS FREUND, HEIDELBERG, GERMANY PERCUSSION 28 GAUGE DOUBLE BARREL SIDE X SIDE SHOTGUN CIRCA 1840’S. 45” overall with 30” octagon barrels. Locks game scene engraved and signed “LOUIS FREUND”. Double triggers and ornately fashioned hammers. Cheek rest walnut stock with beautifully articulated brass trigger guard and mounts. Silver wrist escutcheon . Good overall with original grey patina on metal and stock with crack on left forend and missing wedge. Locks in working order. German ancestor of the famous American Frontier era gunmakers Frank and George Freund of the Freund Armory, Denver, Colorado. Includes book about the Freund family gunmaking business.
