"Serial number 15214. Made in 1855. 44 Caliber with a 7 ½" barrel. This gun is in excellent condition as restored. The back strap is marked “George L. Davenport" George L’Oeste Davenport was the first born son of George William Davenport, the namesake of Davenport, Iowa. George L Davenport was born on Rock Island, Il in 1817 and dies in 1885 in St Augustine, Fl of heart disease. He was moderately successful before being financially ruined during the 1870s. In 1879 he was appointed as Indian Agent to the Meskwaki tribe. (DALLAS LOCATION)
