Description:
This Sharps 1865 carbine is in surprisingly good mechanical condition for its age, which leads me to believe that it may have been re finished at least once in its long life. All of the metal is in a consistent brown finish, with no active corrosion or pitting. The lock work still has smooth function and a clean feeling sear. The only possible problem with the mechanics is a firing pin swipe on the bottom of the breech face. The stocks appear to have a varnish or lacquer on the surface and have wear appropriate to the age with a few hairline cracks around the tang and lock. The stock also shows several faded stamps and what appears to be an attempt at checkering.
