Description:
Very handsome, well balanced, and quick handling consecutively numbered pair of 12 bore Model 25 sidelock ejectors with highly figured European walnut stocks and forearms. Lots of residual case coloring and hand rubbed oil finish on the stocks. Presented in their canvas & leather case with maker’s label, snap caps, J. Roberts pewter oil bottle, mahogany cleaning rod and tools. Each gun weighs 6lb 7oz. Equally suitable for American upland gunning and driven shooting in the UK or Europe.
Perfectly matched in every detail: Each gun has a 15” long length of pull, 7-pin sidelocks, self-opener, disc set strikers, auto safety, rolled edge trigger guards, articulated front trigger, gold lined cocking indicators, automatic selective ejectors, and stock dimensions of 15” to a checkered butt by 1-1/2” by 2” and cast off for the righthand shot.
The 25” steel barrels are chambered for 2-3/4” shotshells and are topped by a thin, tapered hand crosshatched rib. The top of the right barrel is inscribed “Made by Pedro Arrizabalaga in Eibar, Spain”. The top of the left barrel is inscribed “For J. Roberts & Son, King St. London.” The boring and choking of both the No.1 and No. 2 guns is identical. The right barrel is bored 0.729 with a constriction of 0.008 for Improved Cylinder choke. The left barrel is also bored 0.729 and has a constriction of 0.015 for Light Modified choke.
These unique doubles are made by one of Spain’s greatest gunmakers. They are in excellent mechanical condition. Long length of pull and great handling. The barrels and the stock of both guns show some minor scratches and wear from normal usage. An excellent buy for the well-traveled sportsman who appreciates the quick handling of short-barreled doubles. “Horses for courses.”
