"NSN, made in 1861, .577, 39"" round rifled barrel. Barrel is a smooth dark brown patina with pin-prick surface oxidation noted, Lock plate is a grey patina marked ""TOWER/1861"", rear of hammer is stamped with ""CROWN"" Bore is good with strong rifling, areas of frosting and pitting are visible in the grooves. The Brass Butt-plate is inscribed ""J. Benedict 16th NY ART/ Co. D. Stock shows expected usage and wear two cracks are visible. One leftside butt stock and the other is right side between the front barrel band and nose cap. Rifle is equipped with original nipple protector and chain.
