J. Roberts & Son (London) custom Mauser 98 .270 Winchester. Made in 1974, serial 2773 has . Features a 24-inch barrel (light sporter contour, .595-inch muzzle diameter). Features include niter blue accents (follower, extractor, bolt release spring), Lloyd-pattern bolt handle (engraved, checkered), custom shroud, tang safety (checkered, gold “SAFE”, long tang), single-stage trigger (stippled face, tuned) and custom bottom metal. STOCK: Gracefully shaped from a blank of exhibition Turkish walnut, formalities include a horn forend tip, fine wrap checkering with partial double borders, crossbolt, Monte Carlo comb with cheek rest (scalloped, wrapping shadow line), horn grip cap, sling loops (.765-inch inside), recoil pad and oil finish. ENGRAVING: The front ring, bolt handle, tang, bottom metal and guard are dressed with a geometric pattern highlighted by a ribboned caliber and outlined serial markings. CAPACITY: Six rounds (five plus one, the extractor face “snaps over” single-fed rounds. Feeding/extraction/ejection are positive and smooth. DIMENSIONS: Weight (inclusive of 30mm fixed medium rings with windage-adjustable rear base) is 8.0 pounds and the length-of-pull is 14.15 inches. CONDITION: The bore is bright with trace indications of frosting and a faint ring near the muzzle. Trigger pull is crisp. Metal finish is approximately 85 percent. Wood is approximately 80 percent, the majority of adjustment owing to a blended and stabilized repair at wrist left. The price is firm and layaway is available. $6,500 plus shipping.
