" NSN .69 caliber 6.75" round barrel Virginia Manufactory Model 1816 converted to percussion Blanket gun that was used to shoot Crazy Horse in the face. Pistol was owned by Native American Bad Heart, this pistol was illustrated in an article entitled “The Alteration of American Indian Firearms" published in May 2000. Pistol comes with an old note stating it came from “Bad Heart". One day a Sioux named No Water borrowed this gun from Bad Heart and used it to shoot Crazy Horse in his face after “entertaining" a young lady named Black Buffalo Woman. She just happened to be No Water’s wife. Pistol is in an untouched condition and shows some usage and wear as would be expected from a Native Blanket Gun, action functions correctly. Heavy wood loss is noted above the lock plate. Lock plate is marked Virginia/ Manufactory, behind the hammer it is marked Richmond 1816. Barrel is held in place by tang screw and wire wrap forward of lock plate. A very interesting piece associated with one of the most famous Native American warriors in history!
