Description:
This is a framed collection of two Civil War era receipts from well known gun and sporting goods companies. Included is a receipt dated Dec. 28th, 1866 from William Read & Sons at No. 13 Faneuil Hall Square, Boston with the known as "Importers of Guns, Sporting Apparatus, and Hardware Goods" with a list of gun makers available including Colt, Smith & Wesson, Remington, Allen, Spencer, Henry Maynard, Sharps and Ballard. The other receipt is dated Dec. 3rd, 1861 from John P. Lovell of 27 Dock Square, Boston and was "Importer and Manufacturer of Double & Single Guns, Rifles, Pistols, Gun Locks" listing specifically Allen and Colt revolvers. These two receipts date pre and post Civil War and speak to the rapid expansion of guns during that time. A neat historical assembly with well know Massachusetts gun seller receipts. Encased between two sheets of thick plastic the preserved receipts remain in excellent condition with crisp graphics showing old staining along the right side and along the top. A great item for display in any Civil War collection or to pair with your Allen & Wheelock, Colt or other named revolver or rifle.
