Description: The Sig Sauer P210 Target is a modern production version of the original military pistol of the same name. The original SIG P210, aka Pistole 49 or P49, was designed to replace the Swiss Army’s then standard issue sidearm, the Luger pistol (Parabellum 06/29). A refinement of the Petter-Browning patent (Browning meaning the famous John Moses Browning), the pistol shared many similarities to the French Modèle 1935, upon which the pistol was mostly based, but also had similarities to the Browning Hi Power and the Luger that the P210 replaced in Swiss Army service. Taking a cue from the Luger’s design, the P210 featured a slide that rested within the frame rather than on top of it as with the 1911. This feature would later be adopted by the famous CZ 75 as well. Prototypes for the new pistol began a testing phase from 1942 to 1944. The final design was ready by 1947 and was accepted for service use by the Swedish Army in 1948. In keeping with traditional Germanic engineering, the P210 featured extremely tight tolerances. The parts were all hand lapped making each piece perfectly fit the pistol. The result was that the P210 possessed target-grade accuracy for a pistol that was intended only for “military use”. In European terms, “military use” means the pistol sits in its holster 98 percent of the time and looks pretty, with occasional target practice use. As a result, when the original P210s were sold to the US as surplus, the majority were in excellent to like new condition, many being sold with their original, military-issue holster. Unfortunately, their famously high level of accuracy quickly drove up the price and many original P210s with holster retail for thousands of dollars. In order to satisfy demand, Sig Sauer has introduced the newer P210 Target models. These pistols are highly refined versions of the original P210. The frame and slide are now made of stainless steel. The original slide lock and safety have been replaced by more modern equivalents, which are designed to be both easier to use and more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The sights have also been upgraded to adjustable target sight, while the plastic grips have been switched out for a much nicer set of Target Walnut grips. These are shaped in a way that fits most human hands perfectly and is reminiscent of the shape of a glass Coke bottle. Barrel length is 5 inches while sight radius is an excellent 6.7 inches. Trigger pull is similar to the original P210, with a clear take up and crisp break. Slide/frame interaction is very smooth, also a trait of the original. The new P210 comes with two 8-round magazines and is brand new in the box.
