Description:
Very Rare Hi Standard Model USA H-D Target model as modified by High Standard for the U.S. Military (I don't know for which branch, but in the book the example illustrated was for the US Navy). This model, (but NOT the same gun in the photo!) is  pictured in Charles Petty's Excellent "Hi Standard Pistols 1932-1950 on page 63 plate 42. I have only seen one other, and this is the only one I have ever owned. Great pistol for the serious High Standard collector. U.S. Property markings, "Property of U.S." with Cross cannons cartouche. Basically it is a model USA H-D which has the appearance of a slant grip High Standard modified with a new version? 5 1/2" Citation style Bull Barrel and a 103 series adjustable rear sight. Except, it is not a new Citation type barrel....it is a hybrid of sorts. The barrel passes through the frame, and the feed ramp is integral withthe barrel. It is also milled down in diameter to pass through the frame like an HD Military or HE series hammer gun. There are screws on the bottom of the barrel for barrel weights. I do NOT have any paperwork saying Hi Standard did the work, or a US military armourer. I do think it is 100% authentic, and that is my opinion only. The finish is uniform, very much a style of military parkerized type finish (vs that of. a high polish blue found on commercial pistols) that shows some wear, and appears as if it is many years old. Nice patina, as it were.  AND it would take a LOT Of work to fake one of these, as the barrel extension from the 103 series barrels is essentially flush, and the same diameter one end to the other,  and the HD series barrels were reduced in diameter before extending through the frame. So that looks like a LOT of work to me that would be required, to replicate an example of a version that is NOT well known. The pictures tell the story, and I am most glad to provide more detailed photos for serious buyers. Black hard plastic High Standard grips per most model USA H-D's. Please see photos. Condition is quite good. Fascinating pistol, and a wonderful example in excellent condition. Not inexpensive at $4900, Or best offer, and not crazy money either, and again this is the ONLY one I have ever seen.  Maybe you have. If so, Show me another! :) . Please feel free to call or email with questions. Thanks for your interest, and please see my other ads.
