Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are British proud to offer this fine early example of a James Purdey patented thumb opener double. This new system for opening the action for cartridge guns was patented in the year of our Lord 1863, the same year this gun was made. The Purdey brand is one of the most sought after and valuable marques in the gun world, and this 159 year old gem gives insight as to why. While this action was short lived, it is very distinctive, functional, and its rarity only adds to the value. Chambered in 14 gauge, with .700 stamped on the barrel flats. The bores of the original length 31 inch fine Damascus barrels are very good. There are no chokes, and the muzzles touch. She is tight on face, and snaps together with authority. The delicate engraving is pure Purdey, and the hammer springs are strong. The highly figured walnut has drops of 2 and 3 1/4 inches, with an LOP of 14 1/8 inches. This is number one of a two gun set, and it sure would be interesting to look for the mate. If you have been looking for a genuine Pudey, but don't want to break the bank, then look no further. Furthermore, this dainty double offers a scarce action, a scarce gauge, and is in wonderful condition for the era.
