Ruger No. 1-S Medium Sporter chambered in 45-70 Government. This rifle features a strong, simple, compact falling-block breech mechanism with artillery-style breechblock and under-lever is ideally suited for today's cartridges. It has a sliding tang safety that provides instant security, visibility, and accessibility. A robust, sturdy, sculptured receiver forms a rigid support for barrel, stock and sliding breech block. The ejector mechanism provides maximum leverage at the point where the ejector engages the cartridge case. Integral scope mounts, machined directly on the solid steel quarter rib, provide a stable mounting surface for mounting scope rings. It also has a flip up rear sight and a front blade. Cold hammer-forged barrel results in ultra-precise rifling that provides exceptional accuracy and longevity. Mostly thought of now as a hunting cartridge, the .45-70 is capable of taking down any big game in North America. However, in a rifle like the Marlin it is equally effective for self-defense, especially with modern ammunition such as Hornady's 325-grain FTX bullet. Manufactured in 1974. .45-70 Government
