A Collector’s Used; Circa 1948; Serial # K 31,7XX; Smith & Wesson K .22 Target Masterpiece 3rd Model; 5-Screw Sideplate Revolver; 6-Inch Slightly Tapered Heavy Barrel; Solid Serrated Rib, Windage & Elevation Click-Adjustable Target Rear Sight; 1/8-Inch-Wide Ramped, Pinned Partridge Front Sight; Four-Line Address on the Frame; Large S&W Monogram on the Sideplate; Serrated Front- and Backstrap. The barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON” on the Left Side; “*22 LONG RIFLE CTG*” on the Right Side. This Revolver has a Medium Width Checkered (Low Spur) Hammer; Frame-Mounted Rimfire Firing Pin; Serrated Trigger; Frame-Mounted (fixed) Trigger Stop. The Barrel is Pinned and the Cylinder is Recessed with Matching Serial Number on the Rear Cylinder Face. The Bore is Bright with Sharp Rifling; and the Chambers are Bright and Shiny. The Blued Finish shows very little wear for its age (75+ years) as shown in the photographs. As described in reference works, the unusual transverse hole through the bottom strap (behind the grip locator pin) indicates this frame was configured for a lanyard loop before it’s selection as a rimfire-target model. Grips are Standard, Checkered, Diamond Escutcheon-Surround, S&W Monogram Magna Style (not numbered to the gun). A cylinder line and areas of lost bluing are visible around the muzzle, cylinder edges, and a few other small areas. Not being dealers or experts, we estimate this revolver at approximately 85 - 90 Percent (probably, better) Modern Condition. Condition is best judged from the photos, so please ask any questions or request additional information before purchase as this item will be troublesome and costly to return owing to CA re-registration and other regulations.
