Rare Antique Allen & Wheelock Side Hammer Revolver

.22 cal Side Hammer rimfire Revolver made by Allen & Wheelock, Ethan Allen & Co.  produced from 1858-1862 . Total quantity around 1500 . Very low serial number 472

There were several types made . This is the early first model.  This revolver has a long cylinder pin that enters from the rear and the hammer strikes right of center. Grooved top strap sight and square grips.

Condition:  .22 cal , 2 ½” octagon barrel with a lightly oxidized bore, minor pitting and still showing nice rifling .  The metal surfaces of this revolver have developed into a very nice looking antique Grey gunmetal patina with some scattered light dings and handling marks.  Left side of the barrel shows the Allen Patent markings and the cylinder has some very nice rolled engraved motifs .  The smooth walnut grips show a nice tight fitting, are in very good condition with just a few dings, scratches,  and a tiny chip at the bottom of the right grip. The grips are original are stamped numbered to the gun.  Mechanically the action works excellent in half and full-cock position. A strong hammer spring. Very good timing and lock-up
Also included with the revolver is a very nice condition display case and a full box ,50 rounds of Vintage .22 short ammo
