Description:
Ray Marcot, in his official authorized History of Remington Arms, describes this gun as one of less than one hundred made in the final four years of the lifter model. Produced as the lighter 12 gauge model of it's forerunner the 1878 10 gauge heavy duck gun, the 1879 was the first Remington double gun made with the patented Deeley & Edge forend latch.
This gun is in amazing original condition and contains all of the serial numbered parts including the external hammers and the forend key. The gun was completely disassembled (see photo) cleaned and reassembled with only a slight tightening of the stock to action. No other repair, cleaning or checkering was performed. Test firing was performed after reassembly.
The executive committee of the Remington Collector's Society has confirmed the gun as an 1879 hammer lifter and is the earliest currently known survivor according to their records
