In the years following World War II, the Soviet Union ceased production of all Mosin–Nagants and withdrew them from service, opting for semi-auto SKS series carbines and eventually the AK series rifles. Despite becoming obsolete, the Mosin–Nagant continued to see service throughout the Eastern bloc and beyond for many decades. These rifles and carbines played roles on numerous Cold War fronts, including Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and along the Iron Curtain in Europe, serving both in reserve stockpiles and as front-line infantry arms.
Timeless Cartridge Design
The 7.62×54mmR is a rimmed rifle cartridge developed by the Russian Empire and introduced as a service cartridge in 1891. Initially designed for the bolt-action Mosin–Nagant rifle, it has been in use from the late Tsarist era, through the Soviet period, and remains a standard-issue cartridge to this day. The 7.62×54mmR boasts the longest service life of all military-issued cartridges globally.
Notable Features
Milled Hex Receiver: Hex receivers are rarer, stronger, and thicker than normal receivers, making them more desirable. These predate the round receiver models, with round receiver production starting in 1936 and becoming the standard Mosin-Nagant receiver.
