Description:
Handsome 12 Gauge sidelock ejector with vivid case coloring and highly figured French walnut stock. Belgian-made and retailed in Paris by Mainwaring. Number 422 is a 7-pin sidelock and was made in 1926. It is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition. Nearly full coverage hand engraving, oak leaf sculpted fences, vivid case coloring and highly figured French walnut stock. All the earmarks of a very high quality shotgun: disc set strikers, hidden third fastener, and Acier Comprime steel barrels. Has double triggers and auto safety. Presented in its leather case with accessories including turnscrews, snap caps, Abercrombie & Fitch pewter oil bottle, and cleaning rod. Easy to carry for a day afield at 6lb 13oz.
The 27-1/2” Acier Comprime steel barrels are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells. They are topped by a raised solid tapered crosshatched rib with a gold metal front bead. The bore are shiny and bright while the bluing is in very good condition. The top of the right barrel is inscribed “A.M. Mainwaring”. The top of the left barrel is inscribed "44 Rue des Petits Champs. Paris”. The right barrel is bored 0.727 with a constriction of 0.025 for Improved Modified choke. The left barrel is bored 0.726 and also has a constriction of 0.025 for Improved Modified choke. Easy and inexpensive to open the bores to suit your needs.
The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are made of highly figured French walnut. Checkering is crisp. The finish is in good condition but there are some handling marks. Stock dimensions are 15” including a 7/8” black rubber recoil pad by 1-3/8” by 1-1/2”. Cast off for the righthanded shooter.
