Description:
***   SOLD   ***   Great handling and sturdy Alfred Field 16 bore Anson & Deeley boxlock game gun with crisp engraving and nicely figured English walnut stock and forearm. Field was a skilled Birmingham maker and this gun, no. 21255, was made circa 1890. It has automatic ejectors, auto safety, and a top extension. The triggers, trigger guard, bottom plate and toplever have been re-blacked and the stock has been nicely refinished. On face and in good mechanical and cosmetic condition. Easy to carry for a day afield in dense cover at 6lb 4oz.

The 28” nitro sleeved steel barrels are chambered and proofed for 2-3/4” shotshells. They are topped by a raised solid tapered concave rib. The bores are shiny and bright but the bluing on the exterior shows wear and some scratches. The right barrel is bored 0.663 with a constriction of 0.012 for Modifed choke. The minimum wall thickness is 0.037. The left barrel is bored 0.665 and has a constriction of 0.030 for Full choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.037.

The straight hand stock and splinter forearm are made of nicely figured English walnut and the checkering is crisp. They have been nicely refinished but there are some handling marks including a noticeable dent in the forearm checkering(see photo). Stock dimensions are 14-3/4” including a 7/8” butt pad by 1-7/16” by 2”. Cast off for the righthanded shooter.

Experienced upland gunners know that the 16 gauge is a lethal double has ballistically square load that hits hard. This great handling svelte double is ready to hunt hard all day long. A very good value at a great price.
