Galand, Canon De Galand, .500 BPE/ 12 Gauge Drilling. This is a hammer drilling with a manual changeover to the rifle setting. This makes this a very fast and easy to use system with a set trigger. The barrels are .509 Max proofed and are also marked 12.7X76R, 271/2". The action is tight on face with a manual pop up rear peep sight in the tang that is original to the gun, I did my best to picture how the rifle changeover works, it is very simple to use with the right hand and cannot be mistaken for the shot barrel. The mechanism works by raising a lever on the right side of the action and thus moving the shot hammer out of the line of the right hammer and the hammer thus firing the rifle. The right trigger is an adjustable set trigger, the back action locks are in good order and everything functions as it should, Greener cross-bolt. The barrels are clean with some remnants of a cleaned dent in the left barrel that was professionally done, manual rear sight for the rifle, dovetail single bead front sight, the rifle bore is very clean and looks to have been fired very little, Leige proofs, 70mm chambers, 18.4, 12.7X76R, JBC and Fabricant Brevette marked rifle barrel, sling swivels are strong and of a width for European slings. The stocks are in good shape, the rear is a later replacement, the forend is a push button style that is original to the gun, 13 1/2" length of pull to a period steel butt-plate. 9lbs 13oz. Galand was a wonderful maker who provided arms to the great Eduard Foa. Drillings of this heavy variation are seldom seen.
