Description:
Beautiful Alfred Lancaster SXS 16 / 28 bore non-ejector Hammer shotgun with London Proof 1913 in 70mm 16 bore with 29" Barrels as the #2 gun of a matched pair. This fine shotgun was made for I W Hendricks ESQ with very handsome Damascus bbls and exhibition grade Circassian walnut stocks. The Jones Underlever " Screw Lock " opening and closing system results in fast opening and very secure lock up. The original barrels have been cleaned and polished many times over the last 112 years to remove all slight scratches and blemishes after each shooting season in England and the current owner decided rather than have this fine shotgun be subjected to London reroof in order to make it within safe use in 16 bore he had Briley Mfg custom fit the barrels with full legnth tubes in 28 bore caliber. These tubes have two modified and two IC choke inserts for use in the field and target shooting ( tighter choke tubes are available from Briley Mfg.)
This firearm weighs 6.01 lbs in the original 16 bore configuration and 6 lbs 11 oz. with the 28 guage tubes inserted. The stock length is 14 1/2" pull to the custom carved and checkered wooden buttplate from the front trigger. The drop at the middle of the comb is 1 5/8" and 2 1/4" at the heel. The buttstock is cast off and toe out to aprooximately 1/2".
This beautiful shotgun handles very well with excellent balance between the hands and is a joy to look at while in use.
