Description:
This is a US M1873 Trapdoor Socket Bayonet with original scabbard and frog. The 18" blade retains 85-90% of the original bluing with "US over S" on the ricasso, the blade has very few imperfections, only light marks from age with oxidation. The tip is excellent with no deviation. The 3" socket is in excellent condition with light marks from use and oxidation and an "A" on the top back rim. The excellent Hoffman device scabbard retains most of the original bluing with light oxidation, tiny scratches on a dent free surface. The very nice leather and brass frog is in very good+ condition with a US stippled brass casting which is free of verdigris, tight stitching and a fine patina. Above the US on the front, it is stamped "Springfield Arsenal" and on the back the initials "W.T.G." with a partial "...EL" can be seen. ;
