Bear Arms Promotions is proudly offering a chance to own a piece of American History and extremely sought after Winchester Pre-64 Model 70 in 7.65mm Argentine, also known as 7.65mm Mauser. This particular rifle was built in 1937 and according to the Winchester handbook only 31 are known to exist. With a low serial number of 7865 this is a very early Model 70. Mr. Madis of the Winchester handbook states these unusual calibers were made for the ballistic test lab and a few that were made for special The original hooded ramp front sight and elevation adjustable rear sight are still intact on the barrel. The left side of the barrel is marked with the Model and caliber where the right side is marked with the two line address for Winchester. The early receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounting on the front and sight mounting on the left rear. The barrel and receiver are stamped with the Winchester proof marks on the left side. The checkered steel butt plate is clean with little signs of wear. It has the clover leaf tang and Pre-war safety. Hand checkered stock and forearm are crisp with small amounts of handling marks. The bluing is fine with wear in normal areas of use at the trigger guard, floor plate, bolt face, and muzzle. Mechanically the rifle has no issues and the bore is clean and has strong rifling. Overall this is a excellent example of a rare special order Winchester Model 70 that would fit in nicely with the finest collections of firearms.
